W.A.I.S.T. Deuxième

Another year, another round of well-played softball. Teams from around Senegal, as well as other countries (Gambia, Mali, and Cape Verde) made a showing to the annual Dakar event. Most teams (the PC ones), really stepped up their costumes.

The magic wasn’t only found on the field. An incredibly competitive talent show was scheduled for the first night, followed by a prom themed masquerade ball the second night. The third night culminated in an all night, festive soirée.

A good time had by all.

Characters tested. Lives changed. Morals bent. That’s about the gist of it. Sooooo….here are some choice photos to sum up the event.

February 25, 2011 (W.A.I.S.T.)

West African Invitational Softball Tournament. Also known as a hazy costume frenzy that leaves you bleary eyed, sore, hungry, and sunburned. It was a good time. Each region in Senegal had their own softball team, as well as their own costume theme. Teams from Cape Verde, The Gambia, Mali, and Niger made the trek here too. The regions of Tambacounda and Kedougou got together as one misshapen orgy of raw unadulterated talent. The craft and sheer power displayed at each softball game cannot and will never again be duplicated…well…until next year. Tambagou’s theme was Cops & Robbers, not the most creative idea, but it was well executed on both ends.

Tambagou ended up with a trailblazing 0-4 record, but we’ve got style. So much style, that most other teams ended up saying at one point, “Hey, they’ve got style.” Okay. Maybe that’s a stretch. But this is for sure a stretch. A lower back stretch. Good for your lower back.

Some other teams, especially the lederhosen wearing Dakarois, did try to trick us with some advanced (and questionably illegal) moves, but we held our ground. We held our ground until we gave it up and sat on the field instead. What?! It was hot.

Overall. A perfect February. GRE’s complete. Good food consumed. Wii bowling played. Episodes of Community watched. Domino slide accomplished & toppled successfully. Pizza inhaled. Cold beer drank. What more could this boy ask for?
